With the sun beating down and the boxes adding up, it’s tough to stay cool on moving day.

Summer may be a popular time to move, but it also has its drawbacks.

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you stay cool on a hot summer moving day:

1. Take breaks

Break up your moving day with a few breaks now and again. Moving around is enough to cause some overheating, and adding the summer sun to the mix doesn’t help matters. Take a break, cool off and get back to it.

2. Dress the part

The clothing you wear has quite the influence on how comfortable you’ll be on moving day. Loose clothing gives you some room to breathe, and don’t wear warm clothing on a hot day. It may seem obvious, but it’s important to choose the clothes you want on moving day before they’re all packed away!

3. Stay in the shade

If you can help it, park your moving vehicle somewhere in the shade and close to your door. That way, you’ll spend less time in the sun. Those few minutes you spend walking from the door to the truck can add up!

4. Keep the A/C

You think you’re being efficient by turning your electricity off on moving day, you probably haven’t done yourself any favors. Be sure to keep your electricity running so you can use fans and air conditioning to keep you cool on moving day. It’s also a good idea to turn on the electricity at your new place. That way, you won’t be stuck with a warm house when you unpack.

5. Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated on moving day. It seems obvious, but many people are so busy moving that they forget to take a few minutes to eat and drink a bottle of water. Always have water on hand.

6. Hire professionals

Are you still not convinced you’re going to enjoy moving day? Hire movers instead! If you’re unable to move, or would simply rather pass on the task to someone else, there are likely a variety of movers out there for you to choose from. Or, call upon friends and family to lighten the load and add a little fun to the day.
