The holiday season may be the most wonderful time of the year, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t also the most hectic time of the year. With so many people coming in and out of your home, it’s hard to stay organized. With your kids home from school, it’s hard to have time to keep anything in order.
No matter how insurmountable it may seem, however, keeping things organized this Holiday season isn’t impossible. It just requires some ingenuity and a little extra effort. We’re here to help. Follow these six tips to have a happy, organized holiday season.
Make room where it’s needed.
If you’re hosting Holiday or a New Year’s celebrations this year, you probably need a lot of space to accommodate everyone. If you don’t have enough, don’t fret. Instead, look into a short term storage unit rental.
You can move furniture, decor, or anything else you need out of the way into storage for as long as you need. Having this stuff out of the way will help you make room for hosting your guests. Your stuff will be safe, secure, and ready to pick up after the holidays are over.
Put big projects on the back burner until the holidays pass.
Lots of people decide to tackle big home projects during the holidays. They’re spending time more time at home than usual, so they start thinking about everything they want to do there. Starting home projects during the holidays makes some kind of sense. It’s also almost never a good idea. Working on home projects during the holidays usually means putting up with constant interruptions and distractions. It’ll make everything take longer.
You’re probably not the only one who will be inconvenienced by your project, either. Everyone else spending time at home this holiday season will have to deal with your noise and mess, too. Basically, working on home projects during the holidays won’t work out for anyone. This season, consider relaxing and letting your projects wait until after the holidays. You’ll have a better vacation--and so will everyone else. Dad.
Keep decor to a minimum.
We're all about holiday cheer, but too many things can become hard to manage during the busy holiday season. Stick to your favorite, most loved items, and resist the urge to place things everywhere. Clutter begets clutter and stress lends itself to stress.
Don’t be afraid to delegate.
If your kids are home for the holidays, don’t be afraid to delegate organizational tasks to them. Have them help you clean up, wrap grifts, make space, and prepare your home for visitors. Mobilizing your kids helps you get things done faster and cuts down on the ol’ holiday passive aggression, too.
Keep tabs on the gifts you've been buying throughout the year.
If you're the type of person to be concerned about how to best stay organized during the holidays, it means you're the type to plan ahead. Those who plan ahead are also likely to be the types to buy gifts ahead of time.
If you've been gathering gifts throughout the year and storing them away, take time to revisit them. There's no purpose in purchasing gifts if you forget to give them!
Don't forget to leave time for fun.
Staying organized during the holidays is as simple as delegating, taking time to tidy up, and making space. In the middle of all that, however, don’t forget the true spirit of the holidays: family, fun, and cheer.
